Safety at S and M Cranes is not a program bolted onto operations after the fact. Hazard mitigation, risk assessment, and procedural discipline are embedded into every phase of work, from initial planning through final demobilization. Compliance with these protocols is mandatory, enforced at every level of the organization, and subject to periodic internal review. When a crew mobilizes under the S and M Cranes name, the expectation is zero deviation from established safety standards. That expectation does not flex based on project size, client, or timeline pressure.
Personnel Standards
S and M Cranes employs NCCCO-certified crane operators exclusively. Every individual operating a company vehicle maintains a valid commercial driver’s license and current DOT medical certification. These are baseline requirements, not aspirational benchmarks. Personnel who fall out of compliance are removed from active duty until all certifications and qualifications are restored and verified.
Vehicle and equipment inspections are performed in strict accordance with applicable DOT regulations. All incidents and accidents, regardless of perceived severity, are reported to management immediately. Near-miss events receive the same level of scrutiny as recordable incidents, because understanding what almost happened is frequently more valuable.
Drug and Alcohol Testing
S and M Cranes maintains a drug and alcohol testing program compliant with 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382. All CDL holders are subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing. Screening and occupational health services are conducted exclusively through vetted, nationally accredited providers with demonstrated credentials in oilfield and DOT-regulated industries. Local testing is performed at a third-party facility in Midland, Texas with 24/7 on-site capability, ensuring rapid turnaround for time-sensitive post-accident and reasonable suspicion scenarios.
Third-Party Compliance and Verification
S and M Cranes does not rely on self-reported compliance data. Company safety records, insurance documentation, training history, and operational performance are independently collected, reviewed, and verified through leading contractor management platforms and dedicated third-party compliance partners.
ISNetworld and Avetta. S and M Cranes maintains active contractor profiles on both prequalification platforms. Hiring clients may access safety performance data, compliance documentation, and insurance records directly through either system. For procurement teams accustomed to vetting crane rental contractors through ISN or Avetta, S and M Cranes is already qualified, current, and accessible within both networks.
DOT and FMCSA Compliance. All fleet regulatory compliance is managed through a dedicated third-party partner recognized as an industry standard in transportation safety. Services encompass driver qualification file administration, hours-of-service oversight, IFTA fuel tax reporting, and continuous regulatory consultation. This relationship ensures that compliance is not a periodic exercise but an ongoing, actively managed function of daily operations.
Workforce Screening and Occupational Health. Drug and alcohol testing administration, background verification, and occupational health compliance are managed through established, nationally recognized service providers with long-standing reputations in energy sector workforce management.
Client Integration
S and M Cranes is structured to meet prequalification and compliance requirements of major operators, EPC firms, and general contractors before equipment ever leaves the yard. Projects requiring site-specific safety orientations, client-specific protocols, or supplemental documentation are accommodated within standard mobilization timelines.
